Subject: RE: Straw Chopper drum question on JD 6620

Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80

PaKettle - 10/29/2014 21:38 I've never opened one up, but pretty sure it's just welded on the outside. I know of cases where the shaft has broken inside the drum which can't be seen, and made it impossible to balance the assembly

. You may have a broken shaft inside the drum.

You shouldn't be thinking that way?

I hope it isn't a broken shaft. That JD photo, isn't the best, as the drum's outer diameter is a little hollow on the end, before the "hub" or whatever is welded or bolted, inside.

Thanks for the idea, I will try to "twist it" tomorrow, and see if I get any slight amount of "wiggle".
