Subject: poor stalks and gravel road

ne iowa
In the field I combined today, the corn next to the gravel road was not standing very good. Stalks were thin and spindly. 1/8 mile away the corn was standing fine. There could be some soil differences but not much. I assume the ph is higher due to the lime dust from the road. Is there some science to explain this?
