Subject: Grazing standing corn (next year?) in a cheap-corn market

Northeast Missouri
Toying with using some standing corn to background some calves next year, as an alternative to sorghum sudangrass.

I know the economics can pencil out sometimes, but having corn under $3.00, plus the fat cattle price, will keep lots of upward pressure on feeder prices. Maybe the markets will wring out some of the profit potential that would have been available for grazing standing corn? That is, I'm thinking that too many people will have cheap corn for drylotting cattle, so that it will be harder to make anything grazing standing corn next year.

Ideas?
