Subject: RE: Swine guys: Roller vs Hammer Mill

SE MN
We are currently building a new on farm feed mill. We have studied this a lot In the last few months. The consensus we have came to is a roller must be a triple to have an advantage in partice size and standard deviation. A roller mill will have an advantage in 60 lb test weight corn. A smaller hammer mill will be more consistent than a huge one because of the faster tip speed on the larger diameter hammer mill. In our system we are just going to add a 3rd 10 hp hammer mill in line. Don't quite wanna bite off $90,000 for a new triple roller mill. Also a hammer mill can be fixed for a few hundred dollars when a piece of iron makes it way into the system. Hope this helps.
