That's a tricky one. How do they take your advice? If they are in their 40 ' s you must be in early 20's? It is hard to change your habits especially listening to someone with no dairy experience and so young. You may just have to struggle along and slowly change things. Once they can see your plans are working they may be willing to listen more. It may also be that all your plans aren't that great. Not being rude but stating we like to focus on what we did right and others wrong. You see how you improved the farm and they may focus on the failures that you don't see? Not saying that's the case but just a possibility.
Best option is to have a buyout contract in place. Make sure your future goals are theirs too. Let them know that if they improve the farm it will increase the sale price to you and increase their financial wellfare. Remember that you are just starting and have very little financial experience compared to them so try to suggest it rather than tell them.
