Wonder how often something like that happens?

There was a story of an elevator in Ontario a few years ago where someone that worked there happened to drive by at night on a weekend and just happened to see a truck behind the silos in position to load out.
He called the boss to see who was waiting to load out.

Boss said no one and a visit was made to find a transport filling up with soys.

Now it gets better because 2 years ago they had a problem with inventory which they marked down to an error in measuring a partly empty silo and the past year they had an even bigger inventory problem which they had still not figured out what was the reason.

That was the answer.

If they had locks on silos they would have known they had been cut.
No locks no sign of anything missing and the driver was probably careful not to spill any.

Are you talking about McGregor elevator? My brother 40 yrs. ago worked in a small co-op elevator near by and Saturday night they topped off a silo and on Monday manager comes in and says he had somebody deliver his bean crop and not to bother elevator guys he unloaded trucks himself on Sunday into same silo that was full Saturday night . Short story the higher up manager fired my brother for complaining, he complained to co-op directors and they checked managers fields, beans had all been disked down and never harvested . Manager fired,Brother got job back and a few yrs. later manager went to jail for fraud in Financial business..... maybe different in US but here our municipality is constantly being sued by peoples saying they stubbed there toe on sidewalk, ect.
