Richland Center, Wi | The husking bed should be getting rid of at least some of the stalks. I've heard of people laying down some really rough welding beads on the snapping rolls and husking bed rolls to help pull the stalks and husks through if things are really worn.
A previous poster mentioned keeping the head up...I'd agree with that as well. You'd have the potential for less stalk getting into the machine.
You might also consider keeping PTO RPM down and ground speed up. I rarely run more than 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.
And PLEASE shut the PTO off if you plug up! I know too many people who have been severely injured (killed or maimed) who thought they could clean out a picker with it running. One guy did it twice. The time you think you'll save isn't worth it.
