| With both shooting a 40 grain bullet the .22 mag will push it around 2000fps and have a little over 300 ft-lbs energy. The Hornet will push it close to 3000 fps and pound out 700 ft-lbs energy. Lots more knock down.
The 22-250 (easy to find ammo relatively easy on barrels) or 220 swift (harder on barrels and finding ammo) will push a 40 grain over 4200fps and deliver over 1700 ft-lb energy (ouch).
If you're wanting a .22 caliber center fire you need an AR-15 in .223 so when the feral pigs find your fields you'll be glad you have so many shots with your 30 round clip. | |
