Subject: RE: Soybean straw

NE Iowa
I bale a few every year for bedding but also bale cornstalks also;

Advantages:
- At least in my area beans are combined before corn so weather is better for baling
- No need to chop them like cornstalks
- Fields are smoother and easier to bale than cornstalks
- Can bale them the day after combining and will still be dry
- If you get a bunch of leaves in the bales they are more absorbent then cornstalks

Disadvantages:
- Very dusty while baling or spreading the bedding
- Will yield only about 1/3 the bales per acre as cornstalks
- Will basically leave no residue cover for erosion control
