EC IL | I tend to agree, but try to keep an open mind on this subject.
The thing that I've always wondered...if the "respiration" theory is real, or if somehow the stalk is pulling dry matter out of kernels in an attempt to stay alive...WHY are there no cases where the ear shrinks by..say, 50% dry matter weight, or more? In cases of prolonged field dry down, there could be months of opportunity for such to occur.
On the other hand, if UNL is correct and moisture testers are consistently under estimating the % of moisture just after black layer, then in effect, the real world IS paying a guy for the phantom loss, provided it is being commercially dried.
