Just get JDOffice, there isn't anything too speical about Apex if you just want to setup farms and fields, and look at your yeild maps, really there isn't too many things speical about Apex unless you get a new GS2 display from John Deere and you need Apex. There are some things you can do with Apex writing prescriptions using shapefiles though if you are using variable rate stuff.
