Subject: RE: heifer raising

Northwest Iowa
$.45 - .55 / hd / day yardage. Includes all daily labor and bedding, water, manure hauling, etc. All vaccines and breedings paid for by owner but labor is supplied by raiser. If the raiser does the breeding, than the owner should supply the semen ( and arm charge) or pay for the AI tech. with the raiser supplying the facility to breed in. (head locks/chute and sorting). Trucking supplied by owner. All feed is billed to owner on the 1st of month, due by the 10th. Owner gets some say in feed rations but the raiser makes final call because it is his farm. Owner doesn't like, his animals may leave. Communication is key to making these arrangements working. Assumptions cause big problems. If this is a new venture, both parties must come into the arrangement with an open mind, willing to adapt and talk about issues that come up.
