SEQ, Australia | Actually, the FMX is a 220 channel receiver, up from (I think) about 40 channel in the first model back in 2009. There haven't been any 20 channel receivers around since the Ag252.
The extra channels are to support new frequencies that will eventually come on line from newer satellites as they are put up (L5, Galleleo etc) You can't 100% blame the hardware manufacturers - they are just trying to keep up with where the industry is headed. Agriculture is only a fraction of the amount of GPS units sold worldwide in a year. The other industries will tend to dictate what is required, the manufacturers and end users have to adapt to these changes. | |
