Subject: We lost another one

s.c. north dakota
I heard yesterday that another farmer from the Napoleon, ND area died in a grain bin. I don't know many details, but I heard he was 83 years old and helping his son because he didn't want him doing it alone. This is in the same area that lost a farmer last spring, but he was actually outside the bin and when it broke loose it came out the door and buried him. We need to come up with a safer way to do this guys. we put a auger on the bobcat and drill into the pile trying to break it up with some success. I know, I know quit putting high moisture corn in these bins and expect to dry it, but it happens. I have heard of some luck using explosives but I get really nervous about that. I took grain bin recue training last year so I have been around the equipment used and know the hazards but I still catch the guys taking chances that give me chills. I think we are going to have a little sit down and discuss safety and what can happen.
