Wisconsin | My neighbors say 93 was an early (late Aug) frost here in WC/SW WI. With the below normal temperature trend continuing, I can definitely see that happening again. A lot of corn planted around May 20th or later here, an early frost this year would be more devastating than 93. And it is definitely turning dry around here, the soil surface is like concrete - new brace roots are failing to dig into it. Now NOAA CPC has dropped a below normal precip forecast through Aug 5th for most of the corn belt - really bad timing here as most corn is just starting to hit VT and we haven't seen significant precip in about 3 weeks. | |
