If you have the long axles and you want to be exactly on 30 inch centers, you need to remove the gear by removing the cork and driving the shaft out. On the long axles they didn't notch the axle far enough in to get centered on 30 inch centers. You also need to tighten the inside wedge while the wheel is loose and towards the outside end of the axle where you have plenty of room. I always grease everything up real good before I put it together. Some might disagree but I have never had one come loose. Good luck.
