Subject: RE: vaccinate newborn calves

northwest tennessee

As far as vaccinating for anything else at birth, my vet says that it's a waste of $ as the calf's immune system is not developed & will not benefit from it at such a young age.

There have been a lot of studies done that show that is not true. While they may not get full immunity they still get alot and will keep them from having the problem you are working against. They have found that a calf will get more use from a vacc. at about 12 hours old than they will at 3 days. They say if you dont get it in them at 12 hours wait until 10 days and you will be better off.
