The higher your internet speed the better your picture quality. 6mb will be borderline for watching in high def.
These devices will automatically adjust for speed. Sometimes my Roku will pause(buffer) and adjust for speed while watching. It takes a few moments and picture quality will be lessened when it starts up again. This is while watching movies on Amazon or Netflix. I've never had it happen while watching Hulu.
When I bought the Roku my internet provider had to change something with my router and IP address. My internet is wireless so it might not apply to you. My provider could access my router over the internet and change it on there end. No big deal.
