I do have one farm that is pipe irr. and with all the trash I have a hard time getting the Hinker 6000 through it each year. If I start with last year's ridges, run the McFarlane, plant and then try and hill later with the 6000 the 6000 will not flow the trash. I have to go over the field twice with the 6000. Once when the corn is smaller and no ridging wings. Then back again with the wings on. Now I am trying to go in and disc those ridges lightly. I can still see them clearly for planting. The disc throws some dirt on the stalks and helps them degrade. I then run the McFarlane and am good to plant. We will see if the stalks break down more with the dirt. It appears to me that the neighbors with newer combines don't have so much trash. Some I know run the Drango corn head or a JD with the chopper. I just do not see any shucks left in their fields and the stalks are just short pieces. They might leave a 6-8 inch tall stump is all. Go to go no till in with the newer planters. My old JD 9400 they tell me does not have the horse power to even run a 6 row chopping head. The reverser would also not take the extra load. Life. Good planting to you all. |
