ok, i think i understand why they would put one there - to keep it loose in case you find one of those buried wood bass or other monument! I was thinking these spring resets should be greasable but anyone I talked to at the dealer shrugged it off and said they probably did away with them. I'll be putting the fittings in if I get it.
