Same thing happened to Granddad's IH 1086 about 20 years ago. Every wear item in that engine had to be replaced. Crank ground, new valve guides and valves, seats, everything. Very expensive repair all due to a cracked intake rubber elbow behind the air filter. We always give the rubber parts a cursory look every service interval. Give them a squeeze and check the clamps.
