Another question, since you are farrowing in crates does that reduce the potential places that you can sell your pigs to? Or do your customers care? So far it has not been an issue. Most of my customers don't have a problem with crates. I do have one steady customer who buys animals weekly who would prefer they be housed/raised outdoors (more like Chad does) but they really like our quality and the convenience of sourcing all their needs from one place so they kind of look the other way.
Years ago we tried more open air/ outdoor type housing. With our climate and management style I'm glad we moved indoors. |
