Subject: Re: Ford Truck 7.3 diesel engine excessive oil loss

Truck is a 1995 with 7.3 diesel 5 speed manual transmission approximately 225k miles and I do not know its service maintenance history.
Exhaust is dry and has slight smoke when first take off which is barely noticeable. (I do not think all the oil it is loosing is bypassin by the engine piston oil rings and cylinder walls)
NO oil leaks
Check the fuel in filter housing and check release valve on fuel diaphragm and no sign of oil in fuel, fuel is clean
Cranks fine (unlike one that has the cracked injector cups which will crank cold and not crank when engine oil has got warm/hot)
Runs strong and smooth ( Had a injector fuel knock at idle when I first got it but run smooth on the road. I put fuel conditioner injector cleaner in tank and engine is running smooth now at idle)
Only noticeable thing is a slight exhaust leak when accelerate heavy , belt idler squeels at idle , and excessive oil loss which seems to be increasing more as it runs. Not leaking out and not appearing to be going out the exhaust as dry as the exhaust pipe is with very slight smoke which is barely noticeable.

OIL CONSUMPTION AS DRIVEN
Oil change and hit the road for continuous driving (only stoping for fuel) of approx. 825 miles took 8 quarts to fill back up to full on dipstick

Have driven several short trips last few days with a lot of stop and start and some town driving. Have checked and added oil during this time. Total miles traveled approx. 185 and had to add total of 11 quarts since the first 8 quarts which was added after the long road trip.
825 miles interstate driving lost 8 quarts oil
185 miles short distance and town driving lost 11 quarts oil

THIS SITUATION IS A DON'T WORRY ABOUT RUNNING OUT OF FUEL BUT OIL INSTEAD, JUST FILL UP WITH 15W40 ENGINE OIL EVERY 40- 50 MILES AND CHECK THE FUEL ON THE 5TH OR 6TH OIL FILL
