We have the perf steel on the ceiling of our main shop, 60x66x16. Black plastic above steel, then fiberglass batts, then recently added blown in cellulose on top of that. Works great. No echo at all. Walls would probably work just as good.
Do not have any perf steel in new addition, and it is painfully loud at times, always a big echo.
