Subject: RE: looking for a log splitter

Shaftsbury, Vermont (SW VT)
Here are two brands that are popular around here:

http://www.americancls.com/

http://www.timberwolfcorp.com/

The JD dealership I used to work at sold a lot of the American splitters, and I don't remember any problems. If an owner wanted to upgrade to a bigger machine, we never had to take in any trades, because they sold as soon as the word got around. Any needed parts were never a problem.
Timberwolf is local (50 miles), and many of the machines in my area were bought and picked up direct. They make a really nice processor, too.
Most any ag dealership that handles short lines will have one or more splitter brands available.
I'd bet there are machines made in PA, too.
