One summer I hauled hog slats all summer for new hog buildings and everyone had their straps cut to length. If you haul a lot of loads the cost of some dedicated straps is not that much, and well worth the convenience. Just buy some extras and leave them full length and you will have long ones on hand if you need them, and then when a short one wears out, or gets a cut in it, you will have some long ones on hand to cut to length again.
