Leesburg, Ohio | Options serve a good purpose if you understand why and how to get in the correct position for what you want them to accomplish. We use them every year, and probably the majority have expired worthless...but they served the purpose they were supposed to serve meanwhile, usually protecting us from an adverse move in another position we had at the time. That usually meant we were right in what we did in that other position. (Not saying we are usually right regarding the markets!)
So just because options expire worthless does NOT MEAN they were a bad deal.
We just got a significant check back from Chicago from an option spread we put on a couple months ago...still in the spread, just rolled one side down and took some $ off the table.
I agree with posters above saying you need to have a good understanding of your own how and why options work. Nothing wrong with listening for good suggestions from knowledgeable, reputable brokers, but don't let them lead you into something you can't readily understand. | |
