Keep in mind 10-15 years ago white LEDs weren't even bright enough to replace night light bulbs.
As more and more are produced, the prices will drop. Keep in mind that all depends upon standard sizes and connectors. The custom headlight LED bulbs auto manufacturers love to use will probably always be expensive as they are custom built for the housing.
