| I believe that a better way of looking at it is taking the September 1 reported planted acres by FSA and adjusting upward for acres not in the program.
Here is a reprint of one of my earlier posts.
Taking this year's 91.428 million Sept. 17th U.S. Corn acres and adding in an additional 3.352 million (acres not reported to FSA) based on the 9-2012 to Final 2012 USDA figures arrives at a figure of 94.780 million acres for 2013. Take this times 91% harvested and a 155 yield arrives at production of 13.368 billion bushel or 475 million lower than the September 12th USDA figure.
On Soybeans this year's reported 9-17 acres were 74.660 million plus 1.865 of non-reported acres (based on last year from Sept to final) and they may arrive at 76.525 million times 99% harvested times a 40.5 yield would equate to 3.070 billion of production or 80 million below their 9-12 estimate.
