Subject: RE: Taxpayers Turn U.S. Farmers Into Fat Cats With Subsidies

North Central Kansas
I tend to agree that with high crop prices we don't need subsidies. I would venture
to say, though, that without subsidies in the last 15 years there would be a lot less of
us farming.
Whenever subsidies are mentioned, most people first think of farmers. What about
every family who has a child eating at school? Every meal is subsidized. What about
everyone that works in the health field? Not that any one depends on Medicare or
Medicaid. What about anybody who works for federal, state and local government?
What about the newspaper industry. All those legal notices and government ads
don't count. What about all the grants that are dispersed around the country.
Many projects wouldn't happen without subsidies.
When you get to thinking about it, most of us get some sort of help from
the federal government. (right or wrong).
Maybe some day we can have a farm program that makes some sense, without
rewarding the huge operators with disproportionate help. Common sense
would help.
