Your comment about the 8" width got me thinking you should try what we do to learn more about water movement in your soil. We put a valve in the line, and inject blue marker dye with a small electric pump. Open valve and run system, in your case 8 hours and then 16 hours. Look at where the blue dye is after each. This is an example I did at the high school. L to R, 1,2,3 hour run times. We only run drip 2 hours per cycle, but up to 6 hours per day. Beach sand here, but it can teach you a lot.
