| I know where the fitting came from but I do not know why it's on a 4440. Very early 30 series tractors with the wet traction clutch and syncro range transmissons had problems with clutch release in cold weather. The kit in a 30 series parts book lists it as a "Hydraulic Thermostat Bypass Valve" and it routed oil from the cooler back along the left side to the screen plug location. It then reduced the lube oil flow at low temps in the clutch so the clutch would not drag causing gear grinding. Later tractors internally were changed so kit was not needed. It was NEVER needed on a Power-Shift tractor. Has some one perhaps routed the return oil from the hydraulic seat valve to that location using those fittings? | |
