We used to have a chrystler irrigation engine years ago it WOULD vibrate the filter loose if you did not tighten it tight with a wrench.
Everything else I have always used "farmer's torque wrench" and hit them with the filter wrench just a little until they are snug. I never have any problem getting them back off.
