17.9 cst is almost a 50w. Who tested it for you? Do they do any other variables like TBN, nitration, oxidation? How many hours are on the engine? I've done some oil analysis on our 9250 that has an L10 and a few of them had some high nitration ( caused by blow-by past cylinder walls/rings ) which also brought about a slightly elevated viscosity. Not as high as yours is though. We had a lot of oil leaking out the exhaust manifolds and so I did an in-frame rebuild and the nitration finally came down after about 1500 hours.
