does the receiver need 2 way communication with whatever it is sending signal to, yield monitor etc.

No. NMEA position data is a one-way data stream. At a minimum, you need two conductors - a signal ground and the receiver's TX to the other device's RX.

If your other device is sending RTK correction data or configuration commands to the receiver, then you would need a third conductor to get data back in to the receiver.
