Looks really nice I can see you have put some time and thought in to it.
I assum you have been reading and watching stalk talk so you no I have just finished with bunks and here is what i am finding out.
The bottom board or what ever you use needs to be on the back side of the post ( bolt it on and that will problablr be all you'll need ). That allows them to stick there heads in to eat with small head height.
You are right 14" is not going to be enough and 20" they will walk threw ( 500# ) I no because the morning after used mine. I had one on the out side when I went to feed. 16" 17 " seems to work best.
I really like it and you will never regret building it.
