Central Nebraska | I remember when the 50s 60s & 70s came out, our dealer had a 60 in his showroom with a plywood disk fastened on the steering wheel so you couldn't grip the wheel. This disk had a hole with a bearing in it just right to put your finger in it to demonstrate how easy it was to turn it with one finger. Seemed pretty amazing.
He also had one rear wheel jacked up and had the wedges loosened and a wrench on the adjusting bolt to demonstrate the rack & pinion adjustment which was also a first on these tractors. People moved the rear wheels more in those days.
This was also the first time JD offered factory live PTO.
International used the Behlan power steering unit on the 400s when they came out and still used it on the 450s.
They still had two cylinders and a hand clutch though, so the old timers had a few years yet before they had to start complaining. |
