Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska | Wheat has the chance to go high. I'm predicting $10.00 wheat or more. As Phil N said, overlay the drought monitor map and the major wheat producing areas and this wheat crop is in trouble. The wheat ratings are the lowest ever recorded going back to 1986? I've farmed for 30 years and never failed to get wheat up in the fall and raise something. We have no wheat up and no chnace of rain in the forecast. Our yield potential now even if it did rain or snow would be very poor. Most are planning on insurance here.
We have been irrigating some wheat but has been too cold to leave on at night. The next 3 days and nights are to be above freezing. I'm thinking about turning them on again. We're supposed to be close to 70 over the weekend. 30 degrees above normal. We're going to have to have a major shift in the weather pattern to turn this around. |
