North Central Illinois | I'm usually in your corner regarding discussions on this board but this time I think your caboose has slipped off the track. Over 60% of the country is in serious drought. We have zero subsoil moisture in my area where by comparison a year ago we did have subsoil moisture. We raised a little better than half a crop this year despite intense heat and not a lot of rain. Our subsoil moisture carried the crop. We don't have that this year. I have never been one to kill off a crop five months before we plant it, but I have to admit I am worried about 2013. Obviously things can change fairly quick, but right now I see no indication of it. Above normal temps and well below normal precip seem to be the rule. I hope you are right but at this point I am very skeptical. | |
