Those are fair questions if you are analyzing a charity. I believe NAT is set up as a business with a voluntary pay for service model. The site owner has the right to accept as much money as people will send with only the tax auditors to be accountable to. I personally don't care if the site owner makes money on this site or not. However, I understand that the decision has always been to just collect enough money to cover expenses. Expenses are somewhat limited as all labour and technical support is voluntary. If you don't trust that, then don't send money.
