Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

tallgrassneil - 12/1/2012 12:55 Grassburrs are grasses, goatheads are a vine, also called puncturevine. Both have mean stickers, but the goatheads can flatten bicycle tires.

They'll do a mean job on bare feet, too!  As kids, we cousins always had to try to navigate the goat head patch barefooted...........sometimes well, sometimes not so much.   Dad always made sure everything was cleaned up and soles were clean before we started home in summer......he didn't want to transport seed up here and get them started.  As well as they grew in that old red sand, I doubt they'd have known what to do in this black Iowa dirt.   :~
