I'm not so sure 1 in a million get it in the general population. Time and again they have proven most don't understand simple concepts.  Way more than 1 in a million on NAT that really do get what is happening though.

However like you said maybe they simply just don't care. The question is at what point will they care ? When they can't afford food and gas, or the latest phone ? Transfer payments of all kinds stop ? What suffering or hardship will it take to make people care again?

You only need to look at the pablum fed to the masses from the TV and it's "news" divisions to see why we are in this shape. Everyone just believes something because somebody on the TV told them it is like this. There is no reasoning ability, no desire to dig for the truth, and no desire to do any sort of elementary math to see that the numbers don't jive like they are being told. It's all part of a coordinated effort to dumb folks down like good little sheep and give them the classic "mushroom" treatment (kept in the dark and fed a lot of manure)

However, like you mention as long as the "bread and circuses" of DWTS, Idol and sporting events, reality shows and celebrity culture are used to numb their brains and dull their reasoning ability they go along misinformed only worrying about the next show or the next big event and having the latest gizmo to keep track of it all. Never looking beyond today and their own selfish wants and needs to do what is right for the country and for the future of their children and grandchildren.
