I think it all depends on your definition of 'fun'.  We have several definitions around here, and seldom do they intersect.  Husband has the most fun in the world scavaging around in an old tractor salvage yard.  It's really hard for me to find 'fun' there.  Snakes, spiders, sand burrs, etc, yes....fun, no.  Every so often, I get to claim the wife tax on some of those ventures, and we end up in a museum, an antique shop, an artsy-fartsy little shop somewhere or something similar.  It all works out.   From what you've said, winterizing the cabin and building the fire ring would be kinda fun for me.  But that's just me.
