North Central Iowa | I've run Row Flow for three years. Hydraulic drive for two. Row clutches were the big payoff for me. I've got some pretty odd shaped small fields. The seed savings is nice but the biggest savings comes from reducing the double planted areas at 72,000 that fall down and yield next to nothing. Precision promotes variable rate seeding as a huge moneymaker, but I've yet to see it. I variable rate a few hundred acres each year as a test plot but haven't seen any dramatic results yet, not much better, not much worse. I've got an 80 that I vary the rate from 38,000 down to 24,000 because the soil varies that much. Honestly on the areas that I seed at 24,000 I could probably go to zero and it would save the seed money. I only plant it for ground cover and weed control. Fortunately it's not a large area. I do like the hydraulic drive but the first money I'd spend would be on clutches. | |
