Subject: RE: no till and fert openers

rtng - 11/22/2012 15:22 I'm pretty sure most single disc fertilizer openers are set up like mine, with the disc angled away from the seed trench. I have noticed at row ends, where the planter unit hasn't gone over the opener trench, that the fert opener lifts and loosens the soil a couple inches wide. I'm wondering why a guy couldn't reverse the fert openers to loosen the soil directly in front of the planter unit, for a mini strip till effect. Harvest being done, I'm looking for ideas for spring. Thanks.

Too much misplaced seed from the voids created by the 'loosening.'  More compaction in the row area from the fert opener.  More mud accumulation on the row unit.
