SAP (super absorbent polymers) 4 mm @ 200 lbs / acre minimum rate. Good for 8-10 years, organic, bio-degradable.

It did not produce significant results on corn for us this year, but I believe that was because there was no water to absorb, but would probably work well under irrigation...
