I share your idea on the impact on wheat.

As for soybeans- We broadcast some soybeans onto super-saturated soils and harrowed em in two years ago. The root disease pressure was noticeable, but we threw like 220,000 seeds/ac. or something like that, so thinning the stand out was ok. The final crop was remarkably average. Stuff we mudded in with the planter also performed better than expected, making average yields.

Where water has really really hurt our bean yields is when we've planted into decent conditions and got pounding rains within the first two or three weeks. Especially if it's a "cold" rain. For us, it seems like they never come back from that.

How any of that info applies to Argentina is way beyond me. Anyone know what their soils are like? Do they drain as fast the soils in northern Brazil? Also, what the temps like in Argentina right now?
