“These are the times that try men's souls.”
I give my same shots in spring branding that I give in fall. It helps build memory in the calves so when you vacc. in fall they work better. Most all the research I've heard says to vacc. them at 3 months of age, but that won't work for me. I do know that when I vacc. calves on the cows, then pull them off and wean in middle of Oct. I never have problems. But when I wean calves in middle of Sept. then bring home to ranch and vacc. for a 45 + wean time we really have to watch them for 2-3 weeks. Might doctor 2-3 out of 250 hd.

There is no way I would wean with out vacc. calves it is for my protection, plus I don't want to go though summer without vacc. calves in spring. I hit calves three times in ownership of them with vaccines, money well spent on $1,000 calves. I use One Shot Ultra 8, and Bovi Shield Gold 5. I hate to beat the drum for Pfizer, but they work for me. Well enough that I cannot bring myself to try any other vaccines.
