| LED lights would be great for dimming switches, as you could switch on or off each individual LED diode, but unfortunately, that can't work with 110V AC light bulbs. You'd need to power the DC LEDs directly, maybe from a 12V solar panel installation and batteries. And the AC/DC converter in each LED light bulb is huge and a waste of heat and power, even if it uses like 10 times less power altogether than an incandescent light bulb.
But you shouldn't need a dimmer in the kitchen, that's not a place for ambient lighting, you need bright light there.
I moved to CFLs 8 years ago, then daylight CFLs, and started using LEDs 2 years ago for frequently used areas, like the bathrooms and corridors. They're so much better than incandescent or CFLs, but too expensive for a complete overhaul yet for me. | |
