Subject: Re: Tap tee vs regular tee in tile

NW Ohio
We use taps tees all the time. They can be a pain to get in sometimes but they work well. We can get a short neck tep tee for use in six inch they don't fit as sloppy and the long necks we use in 8" - 12" single wall If I'm tapping into dual wall pipe any digger than 12" I'll use a regular internal coupler. The tap tees are nice because theydon't stick in very far and create restrictions. The problem some get into is they drill a 41/8" or 41/4" hole to make them easier to get in and those can pop back out. We have used alot of them in the last 10 years and never had a problem. We also tap old clay and cement outlets with them. Just remove one or two sections of tile and replace it with dual wall plastic cut tight then drill and pop in the tee. Works real well. I hear guys on hear using regular tee fittings al the time saying the tap tees weaken the tile too much but it seems like cutting the tile in two and using a regular tee would weaken it far more. I like the taps anyway
